PRODUCT REVIEW: BATTLE OF THE DRY SHAMPOO
Raise your hand if you rock second day hair? What about 3rd, 4th and beyond? Yeah 3 days is my max before it gets to a whole new level of scary. And as I am a big advocate of the messy hair don't care philosophy, you can't achieve the messy look without a good dry shampoo. And I can say I have tested out almost every dry shampoo made. They range from the $5 Suave (which no, just bad) to the ridiculously expensive Oribe at $45 (again, no, I don't see that it does anything for me). So I decided over the last two months to test out 3 products from your local drug store. I won't give away my winner, but if you really know me, you already know my choice! Let's begin.
Batiste
Claim: Batiste Dry Shampoo is the quick and convenient way to get soft, clean and fresh smelling hair, without water. Batiste offers an instant fix by revitalizing greasy, dull and lifeless hair. Batiste thickens thin fly-away hair and adds texture and body for that easy style solution. Simply spray it on and comb it out.-- Ulta.com
Good: This is my winner. Batiste comes in various scents, from super cherry & tropical to unscented. It also comes in colors for blondes, brunettes, & red heads. As long as you follow the directions (as with other dry shampoos) and spray at least 6 inches from your roots & scalp, this will last you all day. Doesn't leave a greasy residue and keeps hair looking great all day. Sometimes, even with clean hair, I'll spray this on my hair to give it grip when styling.
Bad: It does leave the universal white powder look on your hair. The way to avoid is making sure you spray 6 inches away. It does build up after multiple uses, so I never use this more than 3 days.
Overall: 4 out of 5. I love this dry shampoo & have yet to find any other product to replace it. I even keep a travel size with me in case I feel a bit greasy throughout the day.
TRESemmé
Claim: TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo, with Mineral Clay and Citrus, revives your fine, limp hair by removing excess oil and impurities and helping eliminate odor, leaving hair rejuvenated. Just a quick spray at the roots and this weightless, fine mist will revitalize and refresh your hair without any visible residue for hair that is full of movement. With TRESemme Fresh Start, refresh your hair anytime, anywhere. - Ulta.com
Good: It's inexpensive, doesn't leave a huge residue of white powder on the hair.
Bad: There's nothing memorable about this. Nothing that makes me want to stop using Batiste.
Overall: 3 out of 5. This is a great alternative if you can't get your hands on Batiste. But really that's about it. I remember nothing special about this one & I'm usually a big lover of TRESemmé
Bed Head Rockaholic
Claim: Spray at roots to absorb excess oils, make hair smell fresh and keep it rockin' one more night. Less frequent shampooing saves hair from heat styling damage and colour loss. Unbelievable texture is perfect for big hair or updos. Near colorless formula won't show on your clothes or pillowcase!-- Ulta.com
Good: Smells like oranges!
Bad: Just like the TRESemmé, its ok. For the price I'd expected it to do more. Felt like it weighed my hair down and made it more staticky than it already is after a day or two of non-washing.
Overall: 2.5 out of 5. I mean, it smells great, but this was about as memorable as the last car wash I got. So yeah, it was just ehh.
