BEAUTY BASICS: COLOR CORRECTION

Color correction has been all the rage for at least the last year, but it has gained momentum with what
seems like, every beauty company dropping their version of how to color correct.  Here's your warning, this is a long post! For this unfamiliar with color correction, its simply using specifically pigmented concealers or primers to offset unwanted (or undesirable) color imperfections in our skin.  If you're not familiar with a color wheel, I'd suggest going here or here for a more in-depth look on how color correction works.  But a basic overview is find the color wheel, yeah the one from grade school art class.  Figure out what color you want to correct on your face.  For me it's always the red from my Rosacea, but it could be dark blueish purple under eye circles.  Once you know what color you want to correct, look to the opposite color on the color wheel, and that's what you want to use to hide said imperfection.  I always buy green for red and peach for my slight blue under eye circles.  I highly recommend these 2 videos tutorials on color correction: Carli Babel & Jackie Aina. Both ladies are very informative (Jackie is hilarious) and have other great tutorials to watch as well.

*Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert at all on color correction, as I am still learning more about it each day.  I have watched video after video from various makeup artist showing how to color correct and what products to use.*  But as someone who is  a newbie on this subject, I didn't want to spend crazy amounts of money on these high end pallets, especially not knowing if I'd attempt this more than once.  However, I have found some great options to learn on.  Prices range from $3-$38 from the above products.  Oh and if you find any great tutorials

LA Girl Cosmetics: I wish we could actually see this line in person here in Dallas, but they are not available in store anywhere.  If they are, someone please tell me where and I will drive! But I did order these because I've heard they are the holy grail of concealers.  They don't smudge or crease and stay on for hours.  I haven't tested them yet as I am too scared to ruin them since I finally got some!

I have been using NYX for years now! All 3 products shown above have been purchased over and over again.  For prices ranging from $4-$7, these have been my go to products for years.  I use the green for small blemishes as well as on my chin when it gets really red & angry.  The yellow i mix with the peach for my under eyes to not only correct, but to brighten as well.  Hands down, NYX is probably one of the best drugstore brands around.
Makeup Revolution is a new one for me.  At only $10 for this entire palette from Ulta (yeah $10 for 8 colors!!!) it's probably the best bang for your buck.  I haven't tested this one out just yet, as it takes months to test all these products, but I have read where this palette is good as well.  I have other products from Makeup Revolution, like blushes, and those are highly pigmented.  So I'm putting money on this palette being pretty damn good.  I'll do a follow up review in about a month once I've tested them all.

Let's be real, Make Up Forever is pretty damn amazing.  I use their foundations (matte for daily wear & the HD for blog shoots), the HD powder, eye liner and the two products above.  When it comes to all over color correction, MUF is the best.  I've tried Smashbox green primer and it did nothing for me.  It felt watery, however, MUF green primer is amazing.  You can see the red disappearing right in front of your face.  The HD concealer in R20 (light) stays on longer than any other makeup I use.  I can workout and this concealer is still locked in place. Oh how I wish all the rest of my makeup stayed on that well.  If you have the budget to purchase these ($27-$38), I would not hesitate to try.  go to Sephora and ask for samples before you purchase.  You'll love it!
